Another great lecture from D&AD last night saw Wayne Hemmingway described as a ‘Spatial Fashionista’, deliver a passionate lecture about his life, his wife and their political beliefs.
He took the audience on a journey which lead us through his unusual upbringing, their teenage years – moving from ‘up north’ to London, and the start of the Red or Dead fashion label (named because Wayne is half Red Indian or, to be correct, a first nation Red Indian). This brought back memories for me of the late great fashion emporium, Kensington Market (sadly now a PC World) and London in the 80s and early 90s.
This was interwoven with anecdotes about how they kept thousands of pounds of cash in their loft, how Macy’s New York put in the first order for their collection, what drove them to make a political statement by banning the French in their early 90s LFW runway and what drives them now to save Britain’s streets and communities from turning into soulless desolate places. Respect.
Oh and of course they also are busy re-defining what a festival should be – check out what’s happening in July at the Royal Festival Hall!

Broad smiles and whooping aplenty in the Kaizo office this morning as Linksys by Cisco’s WAG160N router was named Best Network Product at the Computer Shopper and Expert Reviews 2010 Awards last night!
Kaizo was delighted to collect the shiny award on behalf of Linksys at The Langley in Covent Garden, where the free drinks, nibbles and great company ensured a marvelous time was had by all.
Many thanks to Computer Shopper and Expert Reviews for the award and also to sponsors Iiyama who set up a Playstation 3 with Colin McRae Rally to keep us happy after the food ran out!

COTTON USA runs the programme in conjunction with the chosen designer at London Fashion Week in order to promote the use of U.S. cotton to retailers and buyers across the globe.
A bustling show with over 450 people in attendance, the crowd was treated to an amazing display of tricky fabrics, clamped into place with sparkly bulldog clips. The highlight of the collection was his use of velvet and cotton tulle, beautiful fabrics that were inspired by laid-back Parisian chic and the latter made predominantly from U.S. cotton. His collection was an absolute crowd pleaser and we were thrilled to have previewed it.
Not only were the clothes top notch, amongst other big names, Alexandra Shulman, the Editor of Vogue UK, Jane Bruton, the brains behind Grazia and Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud all enjoyed the prestige of sitting front row.
In fact – the fun doesn’t stop there. COTTON USA’s actually going to be giving away clothes from the show! As part of the programme COTTON USA will be running five competitions. Keep checking the COTTON USA website for details for where and how to enter…
